Asking candidates good great interview questions could help you hire the best suitable candidate faster and more efficient while building a better candidate experience. 🥳

Here are 6 interview questions to ask candidates! 👇

1. What skill do you feel you’re missing and want to learn?

Instead of asking what their biggest weakness is, 🤮 (probably one of the worst questions to ask and answer), try asking what skills they don’t have yet and wish they could have. 🙈

This question will help you understand:

  • Who embraces continuous learning and growth.

  • What they want to learn.

  • What they are interested in.

  • Who is self-aware enough to understand that there are still new skills to to be learned.


2. Tell me something about your experience/ education / personality that can help us.

This is a great question to ask in order to understand what relevant experience or background the candidate possess, 🤩 and what they would be able to bring to the company. 😎

This question will help you understand:

  • Their relevant experience or background.

  • What they will bring.

  • Their strength.

  • Why you should hire the candidate.


3. If you could start a business what would you start? 🤔

This question is not asked frequent enough and most likely not asked at all! 😩 Why should you, the recruiter, ask this question when you want candidates employees to stay with you forever, and ever, and ever… The reality is only a few people stay within a company for 5-10 years! 🤯

This question will help you understand:

  • Their creative side.

  • Their interests and passions.

  • The work they like to do and the people they would like to work with.

  • Their hopes and dreams.


4. What was the best working relationship you’ve had with a manager and why did it work so well?

This question could help you navigate if the candidate fit the company,🙌 and who (internally) would be the best manager to help the candidate thrive if you decide to hire. 💪

This question will help you understand:

  • Their value.

  • The type of culture they thrive in.

  • How to successfully manage the candidate.

  • Who (internally in the team) should manage the candidate.

  • Their collaborative approach.

  • If they are a team player.


5. What was your biggest achievement at your last job and what was your role in it?

This is a great question ask in order to get a better understanding of what the candidate value and how willing they are to share the credit. 😅

This question will help you understand:

  • Their value.

  • Their strength.

  • Their collaborative approach.

  • If they are a team player.

  • If they are willing to share credits.


6. This job pays between A and B, is that something you are okay with?

Let’s make salary conversations more open and direct 🙌, it will save you time, energy and frustration from employees due to pay gaps, (true story passed on previous experience!)😥

This question will help the candidate understand:

  • Your company’s fair and equal compensation plan.
